Street Vendor Project

The Street Vendor Project is a membership-based organization for street vendors in New York City. We provide individual legal and small business assistance to our members while advocating for our community. We want more licenses, more public space for vending, and more respect. Each year since 2005, SVP has put on the Vendy Awards, which determine the best street food vendor in NYC.

CHIRLA (Coalition for Humane Immigrants Rights of Los Angeles)

CHIRLA was formed in 1986 to advance the human and civil rights of immigrants and refugees in Los Angeles; promote harmonious multi-ethnic and multi-racial human relations; and through coalition-building, advocacy, community education and organizing, empower immigrants and their allies to build a more just society. CHIRLA has engaged in organizing and advocacy for street vendors in LA since the early 1990's.

UCLA Downtown Labor Center

The UCLA Downtown Labor Center, located overlooking MacArthur Park, serves as an important source of information about unions and workers to interested scholars and students. Through its extensive connections with unions and workers, the Labor Center also provides labor with important and clearly defined access to UCLA's resources and programs. It builds bridges between the university and the Los Angeles labor community while supporting collaborative projects between unions, worker centers, and the broader community.

 Los Loncheros Association

The Asociación de Loncheros L.A. Familia Unida de California is an association of taco truck owners and operators formed in 2008. We  believe our members are an asset to the economic and socio-cultural landscape of Los Angeles, and therefore, should be allowed to thrive in a free, competitive market. In 2008-9, we organized a successful campaign to overturn a regulation that made it illegal for catering trucks to stay parked in the same spot for more than 30 minutes.

After five years in New York, the Vendy Awards are coming to Los Angeles. On May 15th, at MacArthur Park, we’ll determine the best street food vendor in LA while raising money for the movement to protect vendors’ rights.
