NYC Food trucks need your support! - June 14, 2010

The Vendys are so much fun that it’s easy to forget that they are a fundraiser for Urban Justice Center’s Street Vendor Project, a nonprofit organization that provides legal support and advocacy to NYC street vendors citywide. Right now, the Street Vendor Project is working with street food vendors to fight for their survival, and we need your help.

NYC Council Members Jessica Lappin and Karen Koslowitz are co-sponsoring a bill to revoke food truck permits if a vendor receive more than 3 parking tickets in a year. Make no mistake – this will put every food truck in NYC out of business. We’re all for obeying parking laws, but losing your livelihood for a small number of parking tickets is extreme, especially when the bill targets only food trucks. If you love NYC food trucks, please email Council Members Lappin (Lappin@council.nyc.gov) and Koslowitz (Koslowitz@council.nyc.gov) and let them know you support the vendors, not their bill. You can read the Street Vendor Project statement on the bill here,  stay updated by “liking” the Jessica Lappin, why are you singling out food trucks? facebook page, and sign the online petition here.
