Punishment not befitting the crime

8 Jun 2010

Ever wonder what local politicians spend their time doing? One thing they seem to enjoy is thinking up new rules to punish street vendors! The latest idea, by Council Member Jessica Lappin (left, who btw represents the UES) would revoke the vending permits of food truck vendors who recieve more that 3 parking tickets in a year. We’re all for enforcing the parking regulations, but it usuaully results in a $105 ticket — not having your livelihood taken away. Please join the Facebook page we just created to draw some attention to this issue, which will get a public hearing next Wednesday. Our written statement is here.  Please comment with your ideas, as it would be cool to create some social media buzz on this. Maybe a food truck event in front of Lappin’s office?

I think you should investigate and see if she has parking/tickets violations.

It wont be hard finding people who will be willing to fight for this. Amongst us regular citizens, there must be tons of famous chefs, celebrities, and politicians who have enjoyed NYC food truck cuisine. Its hard to believe this is happening, given the growing popularity of food trucks. Even Aaron Sanchez, TV personality and owner & chef of Centrico restaurant is starting up a food truck this year. Maybe the patrons and VIPs need to be rounded up for a show of support (protest). I’ll be there.

My mom is a fruit vendor, and she works extremely hard to keep my sister and I happy and healthy. This is her only source of income, and this is our livelihood. I am proud to say that my mother has put me through four years of schooling at a private college and has always encouraged me to follow my dreams. This is the type of person Council Member Lappin wants to crush. She wants to destroy families and put people out of work in a time when our unemployment rate is extremely high. I can’t believe anyone with a brain would support this bill.

She needs to go on the UNEMPLOYMENT line and eat cheeseburgers all day so she can get fat and nasty. Get rid of the her fancy UES apt and her fancy gym membership…then, we will see if she is against the regular working folk of NYC. BTW, she is one heck of an ugly broad (kinda mannish looking, if u ask me).

While we don’t condone that kind of personal attack against Council Member Lappin, grandest007, we agree that she is against the regular working folk of NYC.
